The best decision ever. I finally moved on to an iMac 27" and with it I finally enjoy Final Cut Express with all its advantages. FCE in combination with MPEG Streamclip solves all problems of working with HD raw footage.

30. July 2009
Some time has passed, meantime we have moved to Dubai and my HD is filling up with lots of Gigabyte of unprocessed raw footage shot by the 5DMkII. Now just having read an interesting article in a Photography Magazine I gave it a shot again and have worked out a new workflow

Studio12

18. January 2009
After having tested several video editing programs on Windows (Vista 64) I found a workflow which is reasonably okay.
1) Download the video to your harddrive
2) Quicktime Pro lets you cut the video (I found out it helps somehow the following sw program..)

Quicktime

3) Final Editing, titles etc.. with ULEAD Video Studio Plus 11. This one works quite good and can read the .mov (even the one straight out of the camera)

Before I ended up on the ULEAD software I tried the Pinnacle 12 which I own already a copy. But this one cannot read the H.246 in the .mov container. Then I tested the Adobe Premiere Elements 7 Trial version but this did not produce a smooth HD video. Maybe something to do with my hardware but my PC is pretty good for todays standard (Dualcore E6850, 4 GB Ram, Vista 64, Radeon HD 4870 1GB). So this was not an option either

For uploading videos I joined Vimeo. The free account lets you upload one HD video and 500MB per week - it "only" shows videos in 1280x720 and not in full HD but therefore the file is a bit smaller, easier to upload... I thought. Turns out this vimea is quite a sensitive creature with still ots of issues. Uploading my video simply does not work - upload stops after approx 30min. Until I still have that issue I cannot share any video's. Maybe its not meant to be and I should stick to the photography :-)

Video Introduction
As the Canon 5D MarkII comes with a true HDTV Video function (1980 x 1020p) I want to add a chapter dedicated to to this topic in my newly designed homepage

I will write some more about my experience with the video function when I played around a bit more with it. To state my first impression: Very different to a normal Camcorder (big surprise huh ?) :-) Shaky, Autofocus is difficult, Zoom handheld almost impossible etc... BUT the quality f the few clips produced still is absolutely stunning...

Here a few links to some movies which were filmed entirely with the 5D II

Vegas in snow by "Focal Bliss"
Very beautiful clip of some snowfall in Vegas in late December 200

Reverie, an independently produced video by Explorer of Light/PrintMaster Vincent Laforet
I think this was the first movie online - definitely the one which had the biggest impact. Have a look!
